The fells as a Norwegian coast of fjords and islands
Raise the sea 381 metres and the central fells become a coast of fjords. Borrowdale, Langdale, Patterdale and Eskdale all fill, the high fells stand as long peninsulas and islands such as Dale Head Island and Wansfell Island, and the dale villages turn into harbours: Borrowdale-under-Sea, Grasmere Haven, Port Glenridding, Port Elterwater.
It is the most dramatic chart we have drawn, and a fine one for fell walkers, climbers and anyone who has spent their holidays in the Lakes.
