Dorking and Box Hill nautical chart print
The Mole Gap as a sound beneath Box Hill
At 121 metres the sea pours through the gap the Mole cuts in the North Downs, and Dorking becomes Dorking-under-Sea at the head of a wide bay. Effingham Sound opens to the west, Crabtree Brickfield Pit lies out to the east, and Box Hill and the downs stand above it all as a high coast.
It suits Surrey Hills cyclists and walkers, and anyone who lives under the downs and would rather be at sea.
